Immigration Laws 2019

by Marjorie A. Gordon-DeLee, MA January 14, 2019

Donald Trump need to be impeached for all the backwards and wrong service that he is providing to the people of the United States and to this entire world whom he is charged to have peaceful relationships with. Instead of building relationships and keeping peace among all of the citizens of this nation and of this world, Donald Trump has caused more havoc, distrust, discrimination, and inequality.

Stuart Anderson reported that:

International Students: Top Trump administration officials have showed no qualms about opposing the entry of highly educated foreigners. In October 2018, the Financial Times reported, “Stephen Miller, a White House aide who has been pivotal in developing the administration’s hardline immigration policies, pushed the president and other officials to make it impossible for Chinese citizens to study in the U.S.” While that plan was shelved, at least for the time being, it illustrates that no foreigners should consider themselves on safe ground under administration’s policies.

International student numbers have fallen at U.S. universities. “The number of international students enrolled at U.S. universities declined by approximately 4% between 2016 and 2017. . . . The number of international students from India enrolled in graduate level programs in computer science and engineering also declined by 21%,” according to a National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) study.

Sources indicate international student enrollment also declined in 2018 and is expected to move lower in 2019 as well, affecting mid-level U.S. universities the most. In addition to other impacts, lower international student enrollment reduces the resources schools have available to offer a full range of courses for U.S. students.

A lawsuit expected to proceed in 2019 argues a USCIS policy memo on “unlawful presence” could bar many international students from the United States. Yale, MIT, Stanford and more than 70 other universities have filed an amicus brief in the case (Stuart 2019).

We have so many highly intelligent international students coming into America to study, fulfill their dreams, and make substantial contributions, not only in the United States but also back in their country of origin. These students really want to make a difference in the world. I have worked with many Professors from other countries who have brought a vast amount of knowledge to share with the American students on these college and university campuses. For Donald Trump to want to limit what students are allowed to come into the United States to advance their studies is simply not right.

Additionally, which is extremely important, is the limiting of legal immigration in the United States by Donald Trump and holding children in refugee camps are totally unacceptable for a human being who is the President of the United States representing all the people. This President does not have a heart what so ever and should be impeached for all of the wrong that he is doing to these children and separating the families causing so much heartache and pain. Being a mother myself, I cannot conceive being away from my small children by force. Just as the Slave Masters did to my Ancestors. This is exactly where Donald Trump want to take America back to.

Valverde (2018) reported in her article about the refugee admission into the United States:

President Donald Trump's administration will admit no more than 30,000 refugees during the 2019 fiscal year.

The 30,000-refugee cap is the lowest set since the country standardized resettlement services and programs through the Refugee Act of 1980. Refugee admission limits are set by the president after consultation with Congress.
Trump's 30,000-person ceiling is a drop from the 45,000-person cap he set for 2018 and is in line with his campaign promise to limit legal immigration to the United States. Trump's decision to cut down on the number of people let into the United States reflects his "America First" agenda and his administration's concerns for the safety of Americans.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sept. 17 said the 2019 limit was a sign of the administration's "commitment to protect the most vulnerable around the world while prioritizing the safety and well-being of the American people, as President Trump has directed."
"We must continue to responsibly vet applicants to prevent the entry of those who might do harm to our country," Pompeo said (Valveerde, 2018).
